Sum only paid invoices

Column B contains invoice status. Column D contains amounts. Sum the amounts marked "Paid" in rows 2–100.

=SUMIF(B2:B100,"Paid",D2:D100)

SUMIF checks each status in B2:B100 and adds the matching amount from D2:D100. It ignores rows with other statuses.

Understand a lookup

What does this formula do?

=IFERROR(VLOOKUP(A2,D2:F100,3,FALSE),"Not found")

VLOOKUP finds an exact match for A2 in column D and returns the corresponding value from column F. IFERROR returns "Not found" if the lookup produces an error.

Avoid dividing by zero

Divide A2 by B2, but leave the result blank when B2 is empty or zero.

=IF(OR(B2="",B2=0),"",A2/B2)

The IF checks B2 before dividing. An empty or zero denominator produces an empty string; otherwise the formula returns A2 divided by B2. Assumes numeric values.

These examples use English function names and commas. Your spreadsheet’s regional settings may require semicolons or localized function names.
